Tummy Tuck of Lawge People in Los Angeles

When we talk about a “tummy tuck for large people,” it might sound a bit odd at first. But if you’re a plus-sized person, there are certain things that must be considered when you are contemplating a tummy tuck. Large people who have lost significant weight may be excellent candidates for skin removal surgery, including tummy tucks.  At his state-of-the-art practice, Dr. David Stoker utilizes the most advanced surgical techniques to achieve exceptional results.

Dr. Stoker will be happy to meet with you in person to discuss whether a tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, is right for you. Call Dr. Stoker’s office at

Tummy Tuck after Weight Loss
If you have undergone dramatic weight loss, overhanging excess skin is a common problem that can leave you feeling disappointed despite having lost significant weight.   In many cases, Dr. Stoker performs a tummy tuck after weight loss. He is able to remove not only excess skin, but also persistent areas of abdominal fat that often remain even after weight loss.

ummy Tuck after Bariatric Surgery
Sometimes patients come to Dr. Stoker wanting a tummy tuck after bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is any surgery designed to help you accomplish weight loss, and thus includes gastric bypass surgery, such as the Roux-en-Y procedure, or gastric banding (the Lap-Band, Realize Band, or similar products).
If you are considered too overweight for a tummy tuck, Dr. Stoker may recommend that you first have large volume liposuction, which enables the removal of large amounts of fat in a single liposuction procedure.  Once this is completed and you have sufficiently recovered, Dr. Stoker may proceed with your tummy tuck.

Another tummy tuck alternative for overweight people is called panniculectomy.  Panniculectomy can be especially effective if you have large amounts of overhanging abdominal skin. Again, this is common after extreme weight loss.  Abdominal skin and fat that hangs over your waistline is technically called a “panniculus.” It may hang over the pubic area or – in severe cases – all the way down to the knees.  Not only does this cause many patients to feel self-conscious, but a panniculus can also cause additional medical problems. That’s why many insurance companies will cover a panniculectomy if it can be considered medically necessary.  The procedure differs from traditional abdominoplasty, as it deals with excess overhanging skin, but does not restructure and tighten the abdominal muscles, which a traditional tummy tuck would.  A panniculectomy focuses on the hanging lower abdominal skin rather than the entire abdomen.

Dr. Stoker: “Experience Makes the Difference!”

A board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stoker has extensive experience performing tummy tucks - on large people and not-as-large people alike.  In fact, Dr. Stoker wrote the textbook chapter on tummy tuck surgery for a well-known plastic surgery textbook.  He is considered an authority on the subject and teaches classes for both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that cover tummy tucks.  You may also have seen his work as a Surgeon Consultant on NBC’s The Biggest Loser, or on Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition (ABC), where he is the featured plastic surgeon.
Dr. Stoker is known for combining broad-based technical expertise with a highly developed aesthetic sensibility. Attention to details such as scar placement and performing refinements such as a pubic lift have given thousands of “large people” tummy tuck patients dramatic results.  “Large people” have become “medium people” who are not only happier because of their transformed figures, but healthier overall after their weight loss.
